SWORN TRANSLATION APOSTILLE
Apostille on a
sworn VOG translation.
If a foreign authority asks for authentication of the sworn translation itself, that is a separate step from the Apostille on your original Dutch VOG. Check exactly which document must carry the Apostille before starting.
Which document needs
the Apostille?
The original VOG and its sworn translation are separate documents. A request for an Apostille should therefore be matched to the document named by the receiving authority.
The original Dutch VOG
If the authority asks for the Dutch police certificate itself to be Apostilled, follow the original VOG Apostille route.
Original VOG Apostille → 02A sworn translation only
If the requirement is simply an official translation, you may not need a separate Apostille on the translation.
Sworn VOG translation →The sworn translation must be Apostilled
If the foreign authority specifically requires authentication of the translated document, the translation follows its own Apostille step.
Translation Apostille routeKeep the original and
translation routes separate.
This prevents a common mistake: assuming that one Apostille automatically authenticates both the original VOG and a later translation.
Confirm the foreign requirement
Check whether the receiving organisation wants an Apostille on the original VOG, on the sworn translation, or on both documents.
Prepare the sworn translation
The VOG is translated through the appropriate sworn translation route for the language and destination involved.
Complete the additional Apostille
Where specifically required, the translated document can then follow the appropriate Dutch Apostille route before the completed documents are returned.
Know what each
document step does.
The route is easier to understand when the original document, translation and authentication steps are treated separately.
