SWORN VOG TRANSLATION
Sworn translation
for your Dutch VOG.
When a foreign authority needs your Dutch VOG in another language, a sworn translation ensures that the translated document is formally prepared for official use.
First, identify
your starting point.
This page is for people who need a VOG translated. If you do not yet have the VOG, start with the application route first.
I need a sworn translation for a VOG I already hold.
VOG Assist can coordinate the translation and any required related steps, including the Dutch Apostille and international delivery where needed.
Start the translation routeI need to apply for the VOG first.
Start with the general VOG route. This applies to applicants abroad with or without DigiD and to anyone who needs help with the appropriate application process.
Start the VOG application routeWHEN A SWORN TRANSLATION IS NEEDED
It depends on the receiving authority, not just the country.
A sworn translation is appropriate when the receiving authority requires a Dutch VOG in another language. Before the route begins, the wording from the employer, authority, lawyer or other receiving organisation should be checked so that the language and document sequence are correct.
- Official useA sworn translator provides a formal translation intended for use with authorities and organisations.
- Translation is separateA Dutch Apostille confirms a Dutch signature. It does not translate the content of the VOG.
- Requirements differSome authorities ask for the original VOG and its translation; others set extra requirements for an Apostille.
The document sequence,
made clear.
The correct order is confirmed for your destination. This is the common structure where an Apostille and translation are both required.
Original Dutch VOG
The route starts with the original VOG in paper form.
Apostille on the VOG
Added first when the receiving authority requires authentication of the Dutch signature.
Sworn translation
The VOG, and where applicable its Apostille, is translated into the required language.
Apostille on translation
A separate step only when the receiving authority specifically requires the translator’s signature to be apostilled.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW
An Apostille on the translation is not automatic.
It is a separate document step. Many authorities require only an Apostille on the original Dutch VOG followed by a sworn translation. An additional Apostille on the translation is arranged only after the receiving authority confirms that it is needed.
A letter, email or official webpage from the receiving organisation is often enough to confirm whether a translation and an Apostille on that translation are required.
